Sunday October 19
Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center, 8pm BUY ONLINE Billy Bang Quartet Paul Rucker Ensemble $18 general As one of the most exciting exponents of jazz violin, Billy Bang has redefined his instrument for a new era. He does this by building on the innovations of Stuff Smith and Leroy Jenkins while staying true to his own musical trajectory. Bang's bluesy, emotive sound now stands out as one of the most compelling and enjoyable voices on the scene, and his uniformly-excellent output as a composer has placed him on the cutting edge of jazz expression.
Opening for Bang is interdisciplinary-artist and Seattle-resident Paul Rucker. In addition to being a cellist and bassist , Rucker is a composer, visual artist, and creator of interactive sound and video installations. Rucker has released two critically-acclaimed albums, including works through which he explores new methods of audience participation. In addition to his new music efforts, Rucker also pursues performance in pop, rock, jazz, and classical music. Rucker is one of a kind and this appearance with his new ensemble is sure to remind Seattle how lucky it is to call Rucker its own. |
