The Thing is a torrential trio comprised of three towering figures in European jazz: Mats Gustafsson plays multiple saxophones with live electronics with Ingebrigt Håker Flaten on bass and Paal Nilssen-Love on drums. Playing first is Cortex, a leading Norwegian quartet of Thomas Johansson (trumpet), Kristoffer Berre Alberts (sax), Ola Høyer (bass), and
Gard Nilssen (drums). Welcomed by KEXP. Tickets are $15 for one show, $20 for both shows, and are available at StrangerTickets.com.

Mats Eilertsen Trio
Tuesday, June 28, 8pm
PONCHO Concert Hall, 710 E Roy St (Capitol Hill)

This trio, led by Norwegian bassist Eilertsen with fellow Norwegian Thomas Strønen on drums and Dutch pianist Harmen Fraanje, emphasizes a group dynamic creating meditative, atmospheric, restrained yet soaring moodscapes. Endangered Blood

Edgy, tight, thrilling, and accessible, Endangered Blood is four long-time colleagues and friends who call themselves a “neighborhood band” on the strength of living within three blocks of each other in New York: Seattle ex-pats Chris Speed (tenor sax/clarinet) and Jim Black (drums) are accompanied here with Oscar Noriega (alto sax/bass clarinet) and Trevor Dunn (bass). Welcomed by KEXP. Tickets are $16 adult, $14 seniors & Earshot members, and $8 students & military/veterans, and are available at StrangerTickets.com.
