“This young musician and composer is at once reestablishing the artistic, cultural, and social tradition of jazz while creating an entirely new jazz language for the 21st century.” — MacArthur Foundation, 2008.
Miguel Zenón is a multiple Grammy Nominee and Guggenheim and MacArthur Fellow. He is widely considered one of the most groundbreaking and influential saxophonists of his generation. His unique voice as a composer offers a fine mix between Latin American Folkloric music and jazz. Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Zenón’s distinguished career as a leader includes twelve albums, including the Grammy Nominated Yo Soy La Tradición (2018) and Típico (2017).
His most recent album, Sonero: The Music of Ismael Rivera, pays tribute to the legendary Puerto Rican vocalist and interpreter who revolutionized Latin-American music in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. Zenon is supported by his international quartet: Luis Perdomo (piano), Hans Glawischnig (bass), Henry Cole (drums).
