Miles Okazaki by John Rogers

In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, in compliance with local health and government agency orders, we have made the difficult but necessary cancelation of the Miles Okazaki concert scheduled for May 15 at the Royal Room. Individual ticket holders will be contacted and notified of their options. Thank you for your understanding and support during this uncertain time.

Born and raised in Port Townsend, WA, now hailing from New York City, Miles Okazaki is a contemporary guitarist.

His Trickster project is inspired by Lewis Hyde’s book, Trickster Makes this World. Praised as “an expression of deep, systemic intrigue” (New York Times), the group draws on themes of collectivity and creativity, exploring the mischievous ancient archetype known for disrupting and breaking taboos to open new possibilities.

Like the Trickster, Okazaki disguises intricate compositions in a deceptively earthy, rhythmic flow. Pitchfork calls Okazaki’s work  “obviously complex, the work of virtuosi. But the resulting beauty is easy to appreciate.” The Sky Below (2019) is the follow up to 2017’s Trickster and is praised as a “lyrical spin on advanced ideas” (Rolling Stone).

Joining Miles Okazaki are Matt Mitchell (piano), Sean Rickman (drums), and Anthony Tidd (bass).
