Abouzied Coe Kennedy Erskine
January 12 @ 7:30 pm10:00 pm$20
Earshot Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year nominee Tarik Abouzied (Happy Orchestra) brings together a group of Northwest jazz heavyweights for a night of groove and smiles with guitar hero Andy Coe (McTuff), keyboardist Tim Kennedy (Thomas Marriott Quintet), and Portland bass giant Damian Erskine (Peter Erskine, Skerik Band).
“A phenomenally funky drummer, with taste, feel, and chops to spare, Abouzied elevates every band he’s a part of. With humor and humility, he achieves a deft balance, exploring the technical and intellectual challenges in music while still forging a deep emotional connection with the audience.”
“Kennedy’s electric jazz trio Gravity is a stunning showcase, while his dance-pop band Richie Aldente flaunts the best elements of ‘70s and ‘80s funky soul and groove, layered with thick harmonic sophistication spiced with hip-hop, a dash of yacht rock, and sticky hooks that just don’t let go.”
With a rich background in jazz and a joyful enthusiasm for blues and psychedelic rock, Andy Coe is recognized as a deeply intuitive, emotive guitarist. As an architect of sound and style, Coe draws in listeners, making collective exploration and resolution accessible across genres. He has played venues and festivals internationally and has performed with Jimmy Page, Duff McKagen, Jerry Cantrell, Kim Thayil, Paul Rogers, Rich Robinson, Reggie Workman, Rashied Ali, Ravi Coltrane, Norah Jones, Stanton Moore, Mike Clark, Bobby Previtte, Skerik, Mike Dillon, Karl Denson and many others.
Damian Erskine has earned a reputation as a solid groove player, as well as virtuoso soloist on the bass. Equally proficient in jazz, funk, latin and other styles of music, Damian has performed and/or recorded with Peter Erskine, Teri Lyne Carrington, Gino Vannelli, Luis Conte, Les McCann, Jeff Lorber and countless others.
