Bad Luck / Kin of the Moon
October 20 @ 9:00 pm
Thursday, October 20
In-person* only 21+
Bad Luck performs in another cosmos from most bands. With more than 15 years of consistent collaboration, Neil Welch (saxophone + live electronics) and Christopher Icasiano (drums) “bear down on you like a cyclone of fire” (The Stranger). Based out of Seattle, Bad Luck is a genre-defying supernova of electronics, metal, folk and jazz.
Boasting a fresh set of new music, the Bad Luck Earshot Festival event will mark the duo’s first public show in nearly 2 years. With driving grooves played in imaginative rhythmic combinations, lyrical sound-scapes, and completely original material, Bad Luck creates an “empowered and truly free human expression” (CityArts).
Kin of the Moon—bassist/cellist Heather Bentley, flutist extraordinaire Leanna Keith, and vocalist Kaley Lane Eaton—perform multi-disciplinary work with sound installations and visual elements to create “improvisation-centric and technology-friendly sound experiences.”
Coming together out of a mutual love for improvising sounds, manipulating acoustic waves electronically, and worshiping the stage as a sacred location for transformation through sonic ritual, the three classically trained musicians of Kin of the Moon create a diverse body of work through their varied modes of soundcraft.
Individually, Kaley Lane Eaton (soprano, pianist, improviser, composer, electronics guru, practitioner of banjo and Renaissance lute), Leanna Keith (flutist, taiko drummer, improviser, composer), and Heather Bentley (violist, violinist, erstwhile cellist, improviser, composer) regularly generate new work in Seattle’s fertile creative music scene. Each collaborates with a broad variety of ensembles in the region.
This is a 21+ event
