Seattle-based bassist and vocalist Birch Pereira, known for swing, Americana, trad jazz, jump blues, and early rock brings his music to the dancehall. Collaborating with a solid set of Pacific Northwest artists—D’Vonne Lewis (drums), Jonathan Doyle (saxophone), Josh Roberts (guitar), and Jerome Smith (trombone, tuba) the night promises music everyone can dance to.
Pereira, educated at the University of Washington in jazz studies under Marc Seales, Doug Miller, and Phil Sparks has widened his genre experience with forays into Latin music, African percussion, and funk. In 2015, Pereira founded the band Birch Pereira & the Gin Joints which has gone on perform in the US and Canada to much acclaim. Pereira has performed in numerous ensembles including the electronic hip-hop group the Theoretics; Jean Grinels; the Celtic pop band The Paperboys; jazz trumpeter Bria Skonberg; and the Cajun soul artist Marc Broussard among others. Pereira also performs in a ukulele duo with Jenny Littlefield.
