David Binney Trio (early set)

September 23 @ 7:30 pm8:30 pm

The Goodbye Look Presents: David Binney, Louis Cole, Pera Krstajic (EARLY SET)

A power trio in the truest sense, this iteration of the David Binney Trio features the visceral and grooving rhythms of Louis Cole on drums and Pera Krstajic on bass, bolstering Binney’s virtuosic saxophone melodies. The trio utilizes acoustic and electronic soundscapes to present frenetic tunes that always remain grounded in rhythmic lock-step. It’s a rare treat to get three musicians of this caliber in the room together, and we couldn’t be more excited to present them.

Binney’s distinctive saxophone sound and innovative compositions have been heard from basement clubs in New York to jazz festivals in Europe and the world. David has also appeared with Aretha Franklin at Carnegie Hall, and with Jamiroquai, Chris Potter, Antonio Sanchez, and countless others. He has won the Downbeat Critics Poll 3 different times in the Alto Saxophone category. And placed in Producer, Album, et al.. Has had front cover features in Downbeat and Jazz Times, featured in the NY Times Art section, and many other publications.

Louis Cole’s meteoric rise out of LA’s recent jazz explosion has been a major part of the west coast’s youth jazz revival. In 2010, he released both his self-titled solo album and the debut album for Knower. After releasing his second solo album, he focused more on Knower, producing three other albums. In the meantime, Cole co-wrote “Padded Cell” for Seal’s 2015 album 7, and together with Artadi, got featured on Snarky Puppy’s Family Dinner – Volume 2. In 2017, he co-wrote two songs for Thundercat’s album Drunk. This led to signing a contract with Flying Lotus’ label Brainfeeder and releasing his third solo album through the label in 2018. The album featured appearances by Artadi, Thundercat, Dennis Hamm and Brad Mehldau. Cole also appeared on Thundercat’s 2020 Grammy Award winning album It Is What It Is, performing on a song called “I Love Louis Cole”, which was dedicated to him.

Pera Krstajic is a bassist, producer, and composer from Serbia. He has toured with Akon, Ne-Yo, Kiefer, Louis Cole, and many others. His musical style is uniquely shaped by his Balkan roots, combining folk influence with heavy doses of jazz, hip-hop, and electronic sounds. He was named one of Jazz Station’s top 10 bassists of the year
