Women have been on the Jazz scene since the beginning, yet they are still fighting the same obstacles they were 20 and 50 years ago. In Her Hands explores the current issues and how women around the US are fighting for auditions, creating opportunities and being role models for young musicians today. Through concert footage and poignant interviews of women jazz musicians from across the country, including Ingrid Jensen, Sherrie Maricle, and Amy K Bormet, In Her Hands explores women’s visions in Jazz and how they are taking it in their own hands—making needed changes to get equality in the Jazz world today. The film is part of Northwest Film Forum’s 22nd annual Local Sightings Film Festival. Directed by Kay D. Ray, the film runs for 66 min. For details and tickets visit nwfilmforum.org .
