Three world-class instrumentalists—Edward Simon (piano), Scott Colley (bass), Brian Blade (drums)—who met in New York in the early 1990s, convert their shared histories into nimble, poetic, genre-leaping music.
Pianist Edward Simon, originally from Venezuela, is known for his multiple talents as musician, composer, and improviser who successfully explores the commonalities jazz has with the folkloric sounds of Latin America. As Thomas Conrad notes, Simon’s “music sustains two qualities that are not always compatible in art: tastefulness and lavish, lyrical, liberated romanticism. “
Bassist, composer and four-time Grammy nominee Scott Colley, is much-lauded, especially by those he works with like Joshua Redman who notes, that Colley has a “natural, intuitive, empathic sense of how to bring the most out of the other musicians and the music he’s playing.”
Brian Blade who is “widely recognized as one of the finest drummers in modern jazz” is known for his “virtuosic rhythmic finesse” (NPR).
