I’ve had the occasion while traveling internationally over the last couple months to experience something that I’d never really considered before. No matter the differences in culture, language, “creature comforts” we’ve come to anticipate here in the States, climate, ethnicity or religious beliefs—music has the same calming, universal appeal. It consistently evokes emotions of joy and happiness. I’ve found myself being inspired by the smiles beaming on the faces of those young and old alike as they listen, sway and dance to melodies and instrumentation.
As I consider what likely will be our new “norm” as American citizens here in the US over the next few years—division, confusion, fear, lack of empathy—I’m reminded of the role Earshot Jazz plays in bringing to life the calming, universal appeal of music. Specifically through our own unique expression of “jazz.”
With its origins in “N’awlins” but rich roots in blues, ragtime, European harmonies, African beats, Negro spirituals and dance music, I continue to admire all the complexities of jazz music. At Earshot, we strive to honor that of jazz, an artform so complex, curious, diverse, and exploratory.
This month we’re proud to spotlight and celebrate local artists and their unique presentation of music during our Golden Ear Awards showcase on March 15. And we’re in the throes of building our plan to identify the next Executive Director of Earshot Jazz.
We are happy to continue our commitment to keeping this genre alive and well—expanding its reach through artfully curated programming that keeps engaging in community thoughtfully and intentionally and motivates new audiences to join the party. And we won’t stop there. We’re on a quest to elevate the great work that’s already been laid before us. One example of this is the introduction of our Earshot Gold Pass.
To help you experience all the great work we do at Earshot, we’re thrilled to launch our Gold Pass. This is an all-access pass to Earshot Jazz events in 2025, including the Golden Ear Awards concert, the Spring Concert Series, and the Earshot Jazz Festival. With exclusive savings, it’s the best way to immerse yourself in our 2025 season. To check it out and get your pass today go to earshot.org/goldpass.
We, the Board and Staff of Earshot, do the work we do each and every day with you in mind. We are eternally grateful for your continued support and engagement. It means the world to us.
THANK YOU!
Spreading love through music.
