Latin Grammy winning flutist Nestor Torres infuses Latin jazz with lyrical soul and rhythmic fire in this special Halloween-night performance. Puerto Rican flutist, Nestor Torres was inspired to pursue music by his father, Nestor Ramon, a jazz and TV pioneer in the 60’s who who played piano, vibes, and Hammond organ. The Torres family eventually moved to New York where teenager Nestor Torres, studied at the Mannes School of Music. Torres also attended Berklee College of Music, and later at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.
Torres’ career includes collaborations with Herbie Hancock, Tito Puente, and Gloria Estefan, Kenny Loggins, Dave Matthews, Paquito D’Rivera and Arturo Sandoval, as well as performances with The New World, Cleveland and Singapore Symphony Orchestras. He has released 18 recordings to date and has earned four Latin Grammy nominations, one Latin Grammy Award, and a Grammy nomination. Torres’ latest album Jazz Flute Traditions (Alfi Records), was Grammy-nominated in 2018. His playing incorporates a seamless blend of Latin jazz, pop, straight-ahead jazz, and classical styles. He has been described as “an exotic mix of styles that takes the listener through American, Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban jazz.”
