Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival

Middle and high school jazz bands and choirs still have time to register for the annual Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, happening at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, February 24-27, 2016. Schools may register as late as December 4, with late fees.

This once-a-year opportunity gives students the chance to perform for a live audience of their peers, and be critiqued by experienced professional musicians and educators.

To register, visit uidaho.edu/jazzfest or call (208) 885-5900.

On the Horizon

Earshot Jazz February Concerts
February 16, 20 & 26, 2016
Various venues, Seattle

Earshot Jazz is pleased to welcome three dynamic ensembles to Seattle in February. On February 16, Ches Smith – one of the most exciting drummer/composers on the fertile Brooklyn jazz scene – appears with veterans of the jazz vanguard (and his recent ECM release) Craig Taborn (keys) and Mat Maneri (viola).

The Gary Peacock Trio performs at the Seattle Art Museum on February 20. A true legend of modern jazz, seldom seen outside of his work with Keith Jarrett, Peacock returns to Seattle with his pristine trio of Marc Copland, piano, and the great Joey Baron, drums.

Also at the Seattle Art Museum will be the Brian Blade Fellowship Band on February 26. Joining one of the best drummers and brightest spirits in jazz, Blade’s aptly named Fellowship Band brings kindred excellence to unforgettable shows.

Tickets available December 15 through earshot.org.
