Jazz at the Spanish Ballroom at McMenamin’s Elk Temple in Tacoma featuring the Dan Duval Good Vibes Quartet.
The Dan Duval Good Vibes Quartet is a reunion of college music friends, Dan Duval (vibes), Steve Yamasaki (sax) and Trent Leurquin (bass) with the fortunate addition of Nonda Trimis (drums). With a focus on creating and performing original compositions, the group’s unique instrumentation echoes and celebrates sounds of jazz from the 1960s and ‘70’s. Their music offers in-the-moment jazz that draws upon the rich history of the music, from swing to bebop with plenty of Latin.
The Quartet offers something for every jazz fan to appreciate – the visual of Dan’s four mallet percussive action, the mellow sound of tenor sax melodies, the thump of bass lines that keep the groove going plus a drummer with creative yet steady hands. Their unique sound mixes timeless classics with tunes from the early days of fusion featuring charts from Ralph Towner and Horace Silver.
