Django’s Birthday Seattle has a new home at The Triple Door mainstage! It’s a beautiful 274-seat theatre–we’re excited to move this popular event to a larger space, with great comfort, sightlines, and sound, plus delicious food from Wild Ginger.

Hot Club Swing musicians from around Puget Sound are coming together to celebrate Django Reinhardt’s 115th birthday! We’ll feature as many great players as we can. The Hot Club of Troy will kick off the evening, then we’ll perform, and finally we’ll close out the night by combining both bands for an epic grand finale.

The Hot Club of Troy will play exclusively Django compositions–Django was a prolific composer across diverse genres, from French musette to bebop, all with equal verve! A lifelong devotee of Django, guitarist Troy Chapman has played with a long list of groups and artists including: Pearl Django, Manhattan Transfer, Martin Taylor, and Bucky Pizzarelli.

Django was an itinerant Romani guitarist who earned international acclaim in the 1930’s. Many of his compositions became jazz classics and he is considered one of the top guitar soloists of all time. Duke Ellington called Django “the most creative jazz musician to originate anywhere outside the United States.” Decades later, Jerry Garcia said, “Nobody has really come to the state that he was playing at…nobody plays with the whole fullness of expression that Django had.”

This event has been very popular in the past–we recommend buying tickets in advance.
