Seattle’s Shades of Praise Gospel Choir is proud to announce three December performances of the arresting musical work, The Gospel Magnificat, by acclaimed Seattle composer Kent Stevenson. This one-of-a-kind gospel oratorio, a jazz setting of the Canticle of Mary, features the choir alongside guest gospel soloists, a full jazz band, and professional dancers, offering a life-affirming and joyous community arts event for the holiday season.

The production is a musical fusion that blends the energy of gospel music with jazz, blues, spirituals, and Middle-Eastern and Brazilian themes, creating a deeply moving and celebratory experience that resonates with Seattle audiences.

Performances are:

  • 2 p.m. Saturday Dec. 6 at Plymouth United Church of Christ, 1217 6th Ave., Seattle
  • 2 p.m. Saturday Dec. 13 at St. Therese Parish, 936 35th Ave., Seattle
  • 7 p.m. Saturday Dec. 20 at Plymouth United Church of Christ, 1217 6th Ave., Seattle

About the Shades of Praise Gospel Choir

For 45 years, the Shades of Praise Gospel Choir has dedicated itself to uplifting and energizing members of Seattle’s St. Therese Parish with a repertoire of gospel, spirituals, jazz, acapella, and Latin-influenced service music. Under the continuous direction of Kent Stevenson, the choir also shares its musical ministry within the wider community with seasonal concerts, ecumenical activities, memorials, weddings, celebrations, performances, recordings and even The Argosy Christmas Ships. The Shades of Praise Choir also demonstrates a commitment to peace and justice through its participation in multi-cultural, interfaith, and immigrant services and events, as well as hospital, prison, and shelter visits.
