In this Letter from the Director, John Gilbreath discusses Alexa Peters and her work with Paul de Barros on the sequel for Jackson Street After Hours: The Roots of Jazz in Seattle, Women in Jazz – specifically the Next Generation Women in Jazz Combo, and the late Mack Waldron. He also looks forward to the upcoming Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Awards Party where recipients of the Golden Ear and Seattle Jazz Hall of Fame awards will be announced and celebrated.

The 2013 Golden Ear Awards Recipients include Eugenie Jones, the Royal Room Collective Music Ensemble, The Westerlies, “Nonaah” by Roscoe Mitchell, D’Vonne Lewis, Jacob Zimmerman, and Stephanie Porter. Seattle Jazz Hall of Fame awardees are Bert Wilson, Bill Frisell, and a special award goes to Daniel Sheehan.
On Friday, December 6th, the Seattle Jazz Composers Ensemble performs at the Chapel performance space. SJCE is a flexible project for composers, musicians, and artists with a wide range of sonic exploration. They have commissioned new pieces from more than 20 composers as they continue to seek more community support, grant funding, and collaborative projects for Seattle artists.
