Tim Berne Oceans And

October 28, 2023 @ 7:30 pm

Saturday, October 28
7:30pm PDT
Raisbeck Auditorium*

Experimental and boundary-pushing describe the sometimes difficult to encapsulate, enigmatic artist and alto saxophonist Tim Berne. Owner of Screwgun Records, based in Brooklyn, Berne readily embraces artistry that is compellingly different and questions itself as well as the world we inhabit. In April of this year, Berne along with accordionist, clarinetist, and vocalist Aurora Nealand, and cellist Hank Roberts released Oceans And (Intakt Records).”The breathtaking music, created by Tim Berne, Aurora Nealand, and Hank Roberts can be deservedly and on all accounts deemed: profound, probing, intriguing, distinct, intricate, raw, courageous, mysterious, and thoughtful. The group’s concerted effort to achieve a cohesive blend is a refreshing relief” writes Baikida Carroll. Nealand describes herself a sound artist based in New Orleans, LA who is “deeply interested in the sonification of everyday objects and knowledge-generation through the stories and history that Sound.” She is the co-founder of SONO (Sound Observatory New Orleans). Originally from Indiana, Hank Roberts moved to New York in the 80’s and was a frequent collaborator in the Knitting Factory along with Bill Frisell, Marc Ribot, and John Zorn among others.

* Raisbeck Auditorium is a new performance space at Cornish College of the Arts. Not to be confused with the older Raisbeck Performance Hall next door, the new auditorium is located in the Ivey building on the corner of Lenora St and Boren Ave.
